Roorkee: Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (Ganga) has launched an intensive drive to repair damaged sewer lines and address faults in the city’s sewerage network, with officials saying the focus is on providing long-term solutions instead of temporary fixes.

The repair work is underway in several localities where sewer overflows, blockages, damaged chambers and pipeline failures have been reported. According to the department, technical teams are inspecting affected sites to identify the exact cause of faults before undertaking repairs or reconstruction of damaged sewer lines.

Excavation is being carried out wherever required to replace damaged pipelines and restore the network. Sewer chambers are also being cleaned and blockages removed using suction machines and other equipment.

During an inspection, Assistant Engineer Junaid Gaud directed field staff and contractors to ensure that repair work adheres to prescribed technical standards and quality norms. He said every fault would undergo a technical assessment so that permanent corrective measures could be implemented rather than resorting to short-term repairs.

The department said priority is being given to areas affected by sewer blockages, overflowing drains, damaged chambers and road cave-ins caused by underground pipeline failures to minimise inconvenience to residents. Besides restoring the sewer network, damaged road stretches affected during the repair work will also be reinstated.

Officials said the repair drive is being monitored regularly and adequate manpower and machinery have been deployed to complete the work at the earliest. They added that strict quality control is being maintained to ensure durable repairs and improve sewer services in the city.
