Roorkee: Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (Ganga) has intensified sewer maintenance and repair works across Ramnagar, Jadugar Road and the Vishal Mega Mart Road area in Roorkee ahead of the Kanwar Yatra, with local public representatives praising the department’s efforts to strengthen the city’s sewerage network.
Assistant Engineer Junaid Ahmad Gaud on Tuesday inspected the ongoing works, including repair of damaged manholes, desilting and cleaning of sewer lines, removal of blockages, replacement of broken manhole covers and restoration of damaged sewer pipelines. Officials said the maintenance drive is aimed at preventing sewer overflows and waterlogging during the monsoon and ensuring uninterrupted sewer services during the annual pilgrimage.
Local ward representative Pankaj Sateja commended the department, saying its teams were working round the clock to address public complaints and undertake preventive maintenance even before grievances were formally reported. “The speed and quality of the work have provided much-needed relief to residents. The department’s proactive approach will help minimise future problems related to sewer blockages and waterlogging,” Satija said.
Officials of Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (Ganga) said maintenance of the sewerage system across the city would continue on a priority basis in public interest. They added that technical works, including chamber repairs, sewer line cleaning, blockage removal and repair of damaged pipelines, were being carried out to improve the overall efficiency of the network.
Sateja also appealed to residents not to dump plastic, cloth, construction debris or other solid waste into sewer lines, saying such practices often lead to blockages. Assistant Engineer Junaid Gaud urged people to report sewer-related complaints promptly to the department. “Residents could contact Junior Engineer Mohit Rana on 7217332541 for immediate assistance to ensure quick redressal of complaints,” said AE Junaid Ahmad Gaud.
